Figure out which dishes need to be heated and when.Are there dishes that can be prepared or made completely ahead of time?.Whether you are hosting a large dinner party or small family dinner, planning ahead can make the evening run smoothly. I don’t have many authentic Italian Dessert recipes yet, but have dozens of recipes that fit this description.Īs noted Italian dinners are THE event of the evening with many courses being served. Dolce (dessert) This includes items like tiramisu, gelato, simple cakes, cookies and fruit tarts.Contorni (side dish) are served as small portions and often use seasonal produce.But you can also serve them at the same time. Italian food is definitely delicious, but all the creamy pastas and breads can sit heavy. Americans often serve large portions of a few dishes, but Italians serve smaller portions of more dishes. Creamier Bakes, Soups and Pasta Salads: Small Tube Pasta like Macaroni and Ditalini.Soups, Salads, Casseroles and Pasta dishes: Short Tube Pasta like Penne, Rigatoni, Ziti, Cavatappi and Campanelle.Light Fluid Sauces: Long Tube Noodles like Perciatelli and Bucatini.Creamy Hearty Sauces: Flat Long Noodles like Fettuccine, Linguine, Tagliatelle, Pappardelle, Lasagna Noodles as well as short shaped pasta like Farfalle(Bow Tie), Conchiglie, Fusilli, Gemelli, Orecchiette, Rotelle(Wagon Wheel), Rotini, Cavatelli and Campanelle.Light Sauces: Thin Long Noodles Like Spaghetti, Angel Hair, Capellini and Spaghettini.Another key to perfect pasta is to learn which pasta goes best with the different sauces. The starchy leftover water can be used to thicken sauces. Make sure you give enough time for simmering for flavors to incorporate before adding more. Add seasoning according to taste rather than an allotted amount.
